Carnage on the Mountain 2013 Addendum

To err is human. While we try as hard as we can, errors still slip through when compiling games for the convention book. This afternoon we published an updated convention book with key corrections to the fantasy miniatures section. Please use the updated version, named 2013_Carnage_Booklet_For_Web_10-08.pdf, for your registration.

Additionally, the web addendum is live. You will find a link in the Convention Book menu of the navigation bar. This is a living document of further clarifications, additions and cancellations. Keep an eye on it in the coming days for further offerings at Carnage on the Mountain.

We thank our friends, GMs and conventioneers alike, for their patience as we reconcile our perceptions with reality.

GM Submissions Deadline for Carnage on the Mountain Draws Near

calendar_clip_artThe summer is just flying by! We’re coming to the close of the submission period for GMs to run games. If you’re still on the fence or have put off getting your games in to the field marshals, now is the time to act! If the universe holds you up and you can’t send your games in until after the 27th, we’ll do our best to make it all fit in the book, but there are no guarantees.

After July 27th, the Carnage staff sifts and schedules all the games our GMs sent to create a weekend of programming that lets people sample new games and enjoy their favorites as much as possible. Then the convention book is laid out, proofread, printed and mailed off to the Carnage community. After that, new submissions are added to the web addendum. So you can see that to reach the most eyeballs, GMs want their games in the printed and electronic versions of the book.

Come one, come all to Carnage on the Mountain! You’ll find the GM sign-up form eager to accept your tasty information.

GM Sign Ups Open for Carnage on the Mountain 2013

Now you, the discerning game master, can answer that question with the utmost expedition. The GM sign up form is now up and running! Carnage wants passionate GMs who want to share their favorite games with the convention community, so figure out what gets you excited and write up a submission to run it at Carnage on the Mountain this year. Here’s Trading With You, Kid: A Carnage Noir No-Ship Math Trade

Thanks to the efforts of Matt Golec, Carnage-goers once again have the opportunity to participate in Here’s Looking At You, Kid, a no-ship math trade with their fellow conventioneers. As Matt explains, “Math trades are a great way to swap games you no longer play for games you’d love to add to your collection. You can read all about math trades here, but in short, instead of trading between two people, the computer orchestrates huge trades among many people. You give one of your unwanted games to somebody, and in exchange somebody else gives you a game that you did want.”

Matt’s post at the top of the list explains the details of the format more, but in short: list the board games, card games, miniatures and RPGs you want to swap away by 9:00pm on October 21st. Then create a want list from the gamers offered by others using the On-Line Want List Generator by October 28th at 9:00pm. Then wait for the good news of what you’re swapping and what you’re receiving.

Go now and list all the games you know will do better in someone else’s hands.

Carnagecast 29: Carnage Noir Update

In episode 29 of Carnagecast, we bring news of Carnage Noir. The convention’s coming up the first weekend of November in Fairlee, Vermont. Game submissions are rolling in, but the deadline looms at the end of July for submissions to be included in the convention book.

Rod brings news of CCGs and board games, including special multi-table sessions of Battlestar Galactica and A Game of Thrones (second edition), plus the return of the kids’ gaming area for the younger set.

Griff’s got the miniatures pulse, with Centuries of Conflict covering the 20th century in historical miniatures — not the 19th, as Griff states in the recording — plus Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40,000, Warmachine and maybe even some Flames of War.

Gaylord talks through the GM’s dilemma of fitting role-playing scenarios into noir and hits on a switcheroo solution that should pique the interest of no small number of players.

Update! The Winter Kotei has moved to allow for a Saturday Legend of the 5 Rings tournament at Carnage. Continue reading

Zeppo Young will be presenting demos of the Hullbreach CCG. If you are looking for a fun prehistoric time, then check out The Lords of Rock in Wonderland. These are just some of the fantastic games not listed in the book! So be sure to see if one of your favorites has been added.

The Realm of Cards: HullBreach!

Hullbreach!  At Carnage! Zeppo Young of NSB games will be at Carnage to demo Hullbreach!, a unique CCG. It combines collectible card gaming mechanics with wargaming to create a unique game. Players will be able to take on the role of commanders in space. They will have marines, ships and space stations at their command. The goal is simple. Commanders must protect their space station at all costs, while breaching and ultimately destroying their enemies space station.

Zeppo will be presenting demos of Hullbreach! Saturday 1pm-5pm in the Edgewater (CCG) room, Saturday 7pm-11pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm in the Terrace Ballroom. Zeppo and NSB Games  will also be in the dealers room thru out the weekend. Be sure to check out Hullbreach! at this year’s Carnage.

The Curiouser and Curiouser Carnage Math Trade

The rapidly approaching traditional Carnage math trade has launched on Boardgamegeek.com. Again helmed by Matt Golec, the Curiouser and Curiouser Carnage Math Trade provides an opportunity for Carnage-goers to offer up unwanted games in hopes of getting something they’d prefer in return.

Matt’s introductory post goes into the whys and hows of a math trade, but in short it’s a computer-coordinated arrangement that maximizes the number of exchanges among participants based on their stated desires.

Start hoeing out your libraries to find some trade fodder!
