In Observance of GM’s Day

GM's Day logoThe Escapist reminds us of March 4th’s relatively newfound significance: “Today is GM’s Day, when players pay homage to the gamemasters who work so hard to bring them excellent adventures at the game table.”

From everyone at Carnage, we want to wish a happy GM’s Day to anyone who’s ever thought to themselves, “Ya know, I should run something next year at Carnage.” A game convention is literally nothing without people willing to offer to teach and run games.

Every year, we’re humbled by the new heights our GMs attain in presenting their games. The exceptional terrain design and figure painting in the miniatures arenas. The role-playing adventures stocked with props, handouts and dice. The board game direct from the halls of Essen.

It’s the GMs who make Carnage an exceptionally rocking good time and for your endeavors, we are grateful.

Just One of the Horsemen: New Additions

Just wanted to let everyone know that many new games have been added to the events being held at Carnage this year. Be sure to check out the addendum page! Author and game designer Walter Hunt presents his new board game Rails of New England Friday and Saturday evenings. Panic Station, direct from Essen, will be run by Joe Reil on Saturday afternoon. Zeppo Young will be presenting demos of the Hullbreach CCG. If you are looking for a fun prehistoric time, then check out The Lords of Rock in Wonderland. In the miniatures room we have added the latest steampunk offering Dystopian Wars. Also start your engines for Nascar: Martinsville 2003 Sunday morning.

These are just some of the fantastic games not listed in the book! So be sure to see if one of your favorites has been added.

 

The Curiouser and Curiouser Carnage Math Trade

The rapidly approaching traditional Carnage math trade has launched on Boardgamegeek.com. Again helmed by Matt Golec, the Curiouser and Curiouser Carnage Math Trade provides an opportunity for Carnage-goers to offer up unwanted games in hopes of getting something they’d prefer in return.

Matt’s introductory post goes into the whys and hows of a math trade, but in short it’s a computer-coordinated arrangement that maximizes the number of exchanges among participants based on their stated desires.

Start hoeing out your libraries to find some trade fodder!

Just One of the Horsemen: Kids Games and the Russians

Russian Board GamesCarnage is pleased to offer board games for kids only at this year’s convention. Justin Berman, who organized the first Friday afternoon Game of Thrones event for the convention eight years ago, will offer board games just for kids all day Saturday. Some of the Carnage staff will help Justin in this inaugural event, teaching kid friendly board games.  The children must be between the ages of 6-12. No parents are allowed to play! (But they can sit and watch and maybe even kibbitz.)

All the staff asks is that parents let them know where they will be if they are not staying. The kids can stop by any time during the day and jump into a game or learn a new one. The children do not have to be registered for the convention to take part in this event. It is complimentary for attendees bringing their families. However, if your son or daughter is registering for the convention to play in other events, they can still join in the fun!  So bring the kids and let’s get the next generation of gamers started with some great games!

Carnage also will be offering  games from Russia in our  library this year. RightGames is a Russian board game company that is now publishing some fun games in English. The games, Potion Making, Evolution, The Kingdom of Crusaders and The Enigma of Leonardo will be available for play in our board game library. Also the Carnage staff will be available to demo these games Friday afternoon. So come check out some great international games at Carnage!

Stealing across the highways and byways of New England like an army of white bond ninja, the Carnage convention book has by now found its way to your mailbox, rookery or other communiqué receptacle. And thus we unleash its electronic doppelganger into the ether as well! Below you will links to not only the convention book, detailing the many pleasant ways to pass the hours of November 4th through 6th in the confines of the Lake Morey Resort, a registration form with which to communicate your heart’s desires, but also a schedule grid, allowing the forward-thinking convention-goer to most efficiently pack their weekend with tabletop gaming goodness.

In addition to the delights contained within these files, keep a weather eye firmly fixed on the Convention Book Addendum page. Late arriving games and unexpected changes alike will make their beds there.

GM Submissions Open for Carnage in Wonderland

As we kick things into gear behind the scenes for Carnage 14, we’d like to invite all our hard-working GMs to let loose the ideas that simmered away all winter, just waiting for the right moment.

The right moment, of course, is that the GM sign-up form is back and ready for action. Pour all your glorious, incandescent thoughts and strokes of genius into its samite fields, from where they progress to take form in the crucible of our mighty event database.

Just One of the Horsemen: Shoes and Ships and Sealing Wax

As the Walrus stated . . . The time has come, to talk of many things: of shoes, and ships, and sealing-wax. Of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings.  And of course another year of CARNAGE! This time we are heading Down the Rabbit Hole, into Wonderland!

We are planning another great year of board gaming. There are plenty of new games out there, and lots of classics.  We are once again looking for GMs in the board game area. The following list covers some of the games we are looking to have presented at this years convention. It may seem large, but it is but a small sampling of all the great board games out there. If you do not see a favorite game on the list, please do not worry.  Some GMs have already planned their games for Carnage.  (Mansions of Madness, Battlestar Galactica, and A Game of Thrones to name a few.)  Just let us know you would like to see a certain game and we will do our best to get a GM for that game. Or even better, offer to GM your favorite game at Carnage to share with other board gamers. Additional newer games will be added to the list as they become available.

Also look for Carnage staff at various locations throughout New England and New York. We have already attended Total Con, TempleCon, Unity Games Day, EconoCon and even PAX East. We have run games at various stores in the area including The Game Castle in Londonderry, New Hampshire and Triple Play in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. We are also regularly at the Green Mountain Gamers game days throughout Vermont.  If you see one of us at a gaming event, come say hello.  Let us know what games you would like to see at Carnage.

Carnage at the Castle in New Hampshire

With it, you have a visual guide to pinpointing the intractable conflicts in your weekend at Carnage. Good luck making that decision!

This grid is based on the one Frank Perricone whipped up for Carnage 12 last year, which turned out be a big hit beforehand and onsite. Thanks for blazing the trail there, Frank.
