Just One of the Horsemen: Board Games Galore!

June is here after May snow . . . ? Time to start thinking of game submissions for Carnage. The GM submission form is up and running. We are looking for board games galore this year! There just seem to be more and more board games to choose from these days. Plenty of new games have hit since Carnage Noir. Such gems as Tammany Hall, Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar, Terra Mystica, Pax Porfiriana, Andean Abyss, Bora Bora, Archipelago, Clash of Cultures, Robinson Crusoe, Island Fortress and Ground Floor . . . whew . . . and that is just a drop in the bucket of all the new games that are out since last Carnage.

What were some of your favorites this year? Which new board game caught your eye and your just can’t get enough of it? Well, come run a slot of two at Carnage. Got a game you want to see played at this year’s convention? Let us know. Do you know of a game that you are waiting for patiently that, hopefully, will be out for Carnage? We have a few: 1775: The Rebellion, A Distant Plain, Cuba Libre and of course . . . Battlestar Galactica: Daybreak! Rumor has it this is close to being on the docket for Carnage . . .

GM Sign Ups Open for Carnage on the Mountain 2013

As spring turns to summer, so do the thoughts of the Carnage staff turn to the question, “Who wants to run some games at this year’s convention?”

Now you, the discerning game master, can answer that question with the utmost expedition. The GM sign up form is now up and running! Carnage wants passionate GMs who want to share their favorite games with the convention community, so figure out what gets you excited and write up a submission to run it at Carnage on the Mountain this year. Board games, card games, LARPs, miniatures, role-playing games, we want them all to make our first year in a new hotel the most fun-filled yet. The deadline to get your session information into the convention book is July 27th, so get crackin’!

The form strives to be as self-explanatory as possible. If you’re new to running games at conventions or have specific questions, get in touch with us through info@carnagecon.com. We’ll connect you with the field marshal in question.

Carnage on the Mountain runs November 8th t0 the 10th at the Killington Grand Resort in Killington, Vermont.

Carnagecast 43: Role-Playing with Gaylord

Carnagecast logo.In episode 43 of Carnagecast, Gaylord joins us to talk role-playing games. His personal history with the form goes back to watching his stepson play with college friends in the dining room, including a notable encounter with the lich Adolf Hitler. From there, he went on to Vampire: The Masquerade, Call of Cthulhu and more.

Gaylord specializes in convention games, so we talk about the different needs of the four hour format versus home games. How does one handle the various kinds of players one gets at the table, particularly those who play their characters “sensibly” and those who are there for the glory of adventures followed to their gory conclusions? This leads to discussing the different levels of abilities and needs that a GM may encounter in a convention setting. Gaylord has related stories ranging from Call of Poohthulhu to Terra Incognita.
